The message of the book of Hebrews can be summarized in two wonderful truths:

1/ Through the perfect Redemption of Christ, we have been made perfectly fit for God. We have been

cut off from everything pertaining to the fallen, old life and the divine, holy and spotless Spirit-life of God has been imparted to us.

2/ Christ has opened the way for us into the holy presence of God to a life of perfect, unbroken communion with Him.

All of this has been given to us as a free gift that has cost us nothing, but has cost our Lord everything.

But the outworking of it in practical everyday life will cost us everything in a struggle with “the entangling sin unto death” (Heb.12:1).

The demonic forces will do everything to resist our entering into full appreciation of our spiritual inheritance, by constantly trying to arouse our flesh and the worldly desires to choke the new life in us.

Therefore, our loving heavenly Father has to take us through a strict discipline, that sometimes will involve tremendous suffering and bereavement.

His purpose is to completely root out every influence of the old life in us, so that His holiness will be manifest in every area of our life, and we will be established in a life of constant communion with Him in the Spirit, not just making occasional visits into His presence.

The goal of our heavenly Father is that the perfect redemption will be perfected in us, through “bringing many sons to glory”, so that His Son will enjoy the full reward of His tremendous sufferings to bring us there.

For the full possession of our inheritance, we need to determinedly “fix our eyes on Jesus” so that we can “run with endurance the race that is set before us (Heb.12:1-2) and “not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Heb.6:11-12)
