What is “life” really – “the Life”?

We constantly see life manifested in people, animals, and plants—but what is it in its innermost and true essence?

John says it is a person!

And it has been “manifested”: manifested and made visible in the person of Jesus Christ.

He is “life” in its innermost and true essence: “the Life.”

Life is therefore not something abstract, nor in the strict sense chemical-physical, not something we

can produce in a test tube.

Nor is it something that arose by chance a number of millions of years ago.

No, Life is eternal – God is “eternal life”: “the living God.”

What characterizes God is Life.

All life has its origin and source in Him.

This also means that there is no life, no existence without God.

Only death.

No existence.

To deny the existence of God is therefore to deny one’s own existence – to bring death upon oneself.

The greatest of all follies!

The physical can be the carrier of life, but is not life itself.

“It is the Spirit that gives life”: “Spirit” and “life” are one and the same, life is essentially spiritual.

Without the Spirit there is no life.

Without the Spirit, we do not have life in the true sense.

We do not have “eternal life”: the indestructible, real life.

That is why Jesus says that we “must be born again” – born “of the Spirit” – otherwise we are only “flesh”: we only have perishable, temporary life.

When we are born again, we begin to live truly.

Then we know what life is in its innermost essence and can “bear witness” to it.
