THE HUMAN AND THE SPIRITUAL (1)

"What man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God."

1 Corinthians 2:11

What is Paul doing in this Bible verse?

He compares the human with the divine in his typically concise way.

What is he saying?

That what characterizes and defines both man and God is SPIRIT!

Jesus has defined God as Spirit in these powerful and decisive words: “God IS Spirit!”

And in the very first words where man is mentioned we hear the following declaration by God himself, the Creator of man:

“Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;”

“Let Us – Our likeness!”

The Father is Spirit.

The Son is Spirit.

And the Spirit.

Man was created to be like the Trinity.

To BE spirit.

God who IS Spirit determined man to also be spirit.

The Spirit is man’s destiny.

Paul also says that without the Spirit we do not really know what a man is, who we are as HUMANS.

It is the spiritual that is truly human.

Just as the spiritual is truly divine.

These two realities are inseparably connected to each other.

Man is inseparably connected to his Creator.

If man does not know his Creator, he does not know who he most deeply is.

How does man know his Creator?

Only through the Spirit.

Only through his spirit.

Only when a man is born of the Spirit.

Then man IS spirit – united with God, who IS Spirit.

“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

“Flesh” is man without the Spirit of God – a counterfeit.

“Spirit” is man with the Spirit of God – a genuine man.

The human and the spiritual-divine are one!
