A word of encouragement for your day.
BE STILL! (2)
"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge."
Psalm 46 is a psalm about the end times. Just as Jesus says, this era will be marked by natural disasters, uprisings, and wars in nation after nation.
How do we react when everything shakes and our world collapses?
Does adrenaline surge? Do our minds race? Are we seized by anxiety and panic?
Or are we calm and full of trust, knowing that God has everything under control and that our security lies in Him rather than in our external circumstances?
Are we filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit because we live in deep, daily fellowship with Jesus and understand that all signs point to His imminent return to set everything right?
Peter urges us to deepen our prayer fellowship with Jesus as we see that the end of all things is near, and to devote time and energy to building a strong church community.
We therefore need to practice, day by day, being still and surrendering everything into God’s almighty hands, so that we are not overcome by panic in the face of the minor difficulties and problems we encounter now.
It is just as important to belong to a loving fellowship where we receive encouragement and help from one another. The idea that "there is strength in standing alone" is a lie. Strength is found in fellowship. God dwells in fellowship. The church is the dwelling place of God — our fortress that will not falter when everything else is shaken.
In this way, we are prepared to face major catastrophes when they come.
Do not be foolish enough to say: "When that day comes, I’ll pull myself together and trust that God will take care of me." A soldier does not prepare for war or learn to handle his weapons in the trenches—while shells and drones are whistling and buzzing all around him and panic is seizing his emotions. Strength, courage, and combat readiness—all of these must be practiced beforehand.
Be still now, read all of Psalm 46, and ask Jesus to show you how to build a sense of security that holds firm in every situation!
