A word of encouragement for your day.
BE STILL!
"For this is what the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has said: “In repentance and rest you will be saved, in quietness and trust is your strength.” But you were not willing."
Isaiah 30 presents a common human phenomenon: a people who want to control everything and solve their problems themselves, and who therefore rush ahead without waiting for the Lord.
If we are like them, our difficulties and problems will eventually catch up with and overwhelm us. It is difficult to be still and wait for God’s solution if our soul is like a turbulent sea.
Therefore, all control by the soul must be broken, and every area of our soul be placed under the control of the Holy Spirit.
Everything must begin with our will—the key to our soul.
If we always insist on deciding for ourselves and doing things our own way, we shut the door on God and must bear the consequences ourselves when things go wrong. It is far better to let go of our stubborn grip on life and humbly let His will be done.
What about your emotional life? Has the Holy Spirit been allowed to enter and transform things there?
Are you still filled with worry and anxiety regarding things beyond your control? Do you harbour anger, jealousy, or bitterness over being overlooked? Are you filled with apprehension and the fear of losing, making mistakes, or failing—of being humiliated and appearing inferior to others?
Or do you feel a need to belittle others in order to feel superior, more spiritual, intelligent, and capable than they are? Perhaps there are attractions and feelings present that Jesus does not approve of?
Name it, confess it to Jesus, ask Him for forgiveness, cleansing, and deliverance, and let the Holy Spirit reshape your emotional life.
What is your mental life like? Do you try to mentally control every circumstance in your life?
Do you constantly ruminate on various things, problems, and situations—whether in the past or the future? Do you always feel the need to explain yourself and offer excuses when challenged?
Invite the Holy Spirit into your thought life and let it be renewed by the Word of God, so that you think God’s good and positive thoughts.
In quietness and trust in God, you become strong!
