A word of encouragement for your day.
THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA
"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last."
Alpha is the first letter and Omega the last letter of the Greek alphabet.
This means that Christ is the Origin and the Ultimate Goal of all creation—the Word through whom all things came into being, who encompasses, sustains, and upholds all things, and who will ultimately bring all things to perfection.
He is also the Alpha and Omega of the Christian life: the first Spirit-born human and the first glorified human.
There were no Spirit-born people in the Old Testament.
"That which is born of the flesh is flesh," Jesus said to Nicodemus, and this applies to all people under the Old Covenant.
Then He continued: "that which is born of the Spirit is spirit"—referring to the people of the New Covenant.
Jesus was the first Spirit-born human.
He came to reproduce Himself through His death and resurrection: “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.”
When we are born again, we become spiritual beings, just like Him.
The Risen One is also the Glorified One—the ultimate goal of the spiritual life, the One into whose perfect likeness we shall one day be fully transformed.
What this will entail cannot be expressed in the limited human languages we speak today.
Just as the Lord is ineffable, so too is the glorified human being ineffable.
But one day, everything will be explained in a language we cannot learn now.
“For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know (understand fully) just as I also am (completely) known.”
