ARE YOU ALIVE?

"As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me."
— John 6:57

Why does Jesus call God "the living Father"?

And why does he say that we "will live"?

Aren't we alive?

No, not in the sense that Jesus speaks concerning His Father and Himself.

God lives in an absolute, indestructible and eternal sense: He is "the Living One".

Man exists, but is not truly "alive".

Why?

Because he is under the power of death through sin. He lives physically, but in his innermost being, in his spirit, the core of his personality, he is dead.

But Jesus said that we "will live"!

He came to destroy the spirit of death and make us partakers of the divine life, the life of the Spirit, the indestructible, eternal life.

When we partake of that life through the new birth, we become truly alive.

We are invaded by a life that carries all the wonderful powers of creation, but more than that, a life that has overcome man's greatest enemies: death and all the destructive powers of darkness.

It is the very life of the Almighty Creator and the triumphant victorious life of Jesus Christ.

This life is, above all, a life that creates fellowship.

What is the fellowship-creating power of this life?

Love—the Love of God!

God is Love: an eternal, indivisible, and indestructible fellowship between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

When we are born again, we are born into that fellowship of love.

Human love is selective. We like some people and dislike others; we are very fond of a few and less so of many.

God’s Love is inclusive. He desires to draw everyone into His eternal fellowship—even those who turn their backs on Him and hate Him.

Once we have become His children, we begin to love in the same way; we become creators of fellowship, doing everything we can to draw others into that eternal fellowship of love.

That is what it means to “live” in the sense Jesus speaks of.

Are you alive?
