THE INCOMPREHENSIBLE MAN
"But so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me. Get up, let’s go from here."
And Jesus rose to go to Gethsemane, knowing that there He would be arrested, falsely accused and executed.
He is the absolutely incomprehensible man!
Just think about it: a man, 33 years of age, at the peak of his strength, with all the possibilities for self-realization in front of him, who voluntarily goes to his own execution - who can understand such a man?
Here is a man with no own plans or dreams, ambitions or goals. In Him there was no self-will and self-assertion, no self-realization or self-satisfaction, not even the least self-defence or self-justification – He was willing to be totally ridiculed, despised and mocked, ready to be tormented to death to implement the plans and purposes of another, because He loved Him and was willing to do whatever the Father commanded.
Such a man "the world" cannot understand – and the devil cannot defeat!
The devil did his best to deviate Him from His absolute submission and obedience to His Father out there in the desert and instead satisfy and assert Himself and implement His own plans, but He refused. He constantly attacked and questioned Him through the pharisees and even used His most trusted disciple to try to side-track Him.
But we read in Luke 9:51 that Jesus “was determined to go to Jerusalem”: nobody and nothing could make Him deviate from what His Father had planned!
And Peter says that we are called to walk in the foot-steps of Jesus Christ.
How is that possible?
Only if we allow the same love that directed Him to invade and direct our lives.
Then we too become incomprehensible men, just like Him!
