FREE INDEED

"Everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed"
— John 8:34, 36

The freedom the Son delivers us into, is the freedom of a child – to be happily free from all proud self-occupation and self-assertion, the basic reason for all our worries, tensions, problems, cares and sorrows – to live as care-anxiety-sorrow-free children in the presence of our heavenly Father.

The slavery of sin consists of the enslaving forces of the independent self-life that compel us to constantly defend, excuse, and assert ourselves. It all stems from the deep, satanic root of self-righteousness.

Only the Eternal Child, who always lived as a delighted Son in the presence of His Father, and descended to play delightfully with the first humans in the Garden of Eden (meaning ‘place of pleasure’), can redeem us into that original pleasure-filled life.

The great work of the Holy Spirit is to make us constantly aware of this joyful, care-free freedom into which the Son has brought us.

Paul lived in that wonderful liberty, free from the slavery of always fearing what others thought about him and the curse of self-examining self-condemnation, leaving the judgment of his life fully over to the Lord alone.

“Eternal Life” is the joyful freedom of the Eternal Son, imparted to us through His Spirit of

Sonship, crying “Abba! Father!”

The Spirit sets us free and protects us from the manifold spirits of slavery that constantly seek to revive old, anxious thoughts and all paralyzing feelings of fear.

The Son lived His life in this world, exposed to the same enslaving powers, without ever letting Himself be ensnared by them.

How?

By living constantly secure in his Father’s almighty, liberating love and care.

Only He can make us free indeed!
