This Scripture verse defines the meaning of being human.

Even the smallest and seemingly unimportant aspects of life must be directed towards one goal and purpose: God.

Otherwise, you are less than truly human – a self-destructive idol worshiper!

If we do not understand the purpose of the existence of the universe as well as of our own existence, we inevitably become idolatrous.

Whatever you do for its own sake or make the aim and purpose of your action, becomes your idol at that very moment.

A dog or a cat can just exist without having any conscious purpose, but as a human being that is impossible.

You must have goals and purposes for your life.

This is a distinctively human characteristic.

A purposeless life is a meaningless life, non-human and depressive.

The whole universe exists solely and exclusively for the glory of God, realized in and through Jesus Christ. He is the Source and Goal of everything: the great Alpha and Omega, by whom and for whom everything exists. Through His Son God created everything and the Son is the Centre, Ruler and Final Sum of everything.

Man was deceived by the great liar to make himself the goal and purpose of his existence, his own little god: a dead end!

Therefore, man must have something greater than himself to look up to, and so he must create his own idols, his own gods, whether they be his own dreams and purposes, some idolized person or spirit powers.

But the day comes when everybody and everything will finally recognize that there is only one

Supreme Lord, the Goal and Purpose of everybody and everything. How utterly shameful it will be

that day to be forced to admit that you put somebody or something else in His place!

What Paul is actually teaching us in 1 Cor.10:31 is that everything in our life, even the daily little details must be aimed at this one purpose and goal, not at myself.

This of course requires the complete eradication of every form of self-centredness and self-realization, replacing it with complete Christ-centredness and Christ-realization.

Then we will do everything to the glory of God – and will no longer be idolatrous!
