Jesus has done what was completely impossible for us to perform with all our efforts.

He has ignited the fire of love for him in our hearts: the fulfilment of the greatest commandment.

This demanded of Him a sacrifice nobody else could ever give and cost Him an anguish that no human can possibly understand or measure.

Now, our greatest responsibility is to keep that fire of love burning on the altar of our heart: “it shall never go out.” (Lev.6:12-13)

To keep a fire going two factors are necessary: wood (‘fuel’) and oxygen.

Spiritually speaking these two decisive factors are the Word of God and prayer.

The Word of God is for the fire of the Spirit what fuel is for natural fire, it energizes and vitalizes the flame of the Spirit. The Word of God is full of the fire of devotion to God and inspires our hearts to love Him more and more, as it reveals the beautiful character and marvellous works of the Lord to us.

The more we know Him, the deeper we love Him. The human writers of the Word were devoted

worshipers and they inspire our hearts to love-filled worship.

Prayer is the breath, oxygen for the flame of love for God. Praying in the Holy Spirit is to be in-breathed with the mighty love of the Spirit, the Love-flame of the Trinity.

The Holy Spirit makes the Person and Presence of the Lord real to us, captures our minds and emotions and turns our whole being towards God in loving worship and communion. Through Him we are glued together with the Lord into a deep spirit-union of love.

We must determine to meditate daily on the Word, so that it becomes fuel to our love for God and

take definite times for prayer and worship, as well as whenever possible during the day turn our hearts to prayer, thanksgiving and worship.
