THE INVINCIBLE
"Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome. And I saw a Lamb standing, as if slaughtered, …"
How did Jesus Christ become the Invincible Conqueror?
Through the Father!
Because he “knew” the Father.
What does that mean?
First of all, that he was “born of the Father” and thus possessed exactly the same divine and almighty life as Him.
Then, that from eternity He had lived in an infinitely deep love relationship with the Father in His bosom, so that an unbreakable bond of love had arisen between Him and the Father.
This led to Him loving His Father above all else and having no other goal in His life than to glorify His Father by doing His will and implementing His purposes on earth.
Therefore, He never allowed anything to come between Himself and His Father, no matter what it cost Him personally.
In everything, He remained completely dependent on His heavenly Father and totally obedient to Him unto the terrible death on the cross, for He always did what pleased and satisfied the Father.
He had no life of His own – only ‘the Father’s life’!
Therefore, He was the Father’s Son, the Beloved, with whom the Father was completely pleased and was with Him always, never leaving Him alone, not even in the bitterest hour of death or in the darkest depths of Hades.
Therefore, no devil, no demon in hell, not even death itself could defeat Him.
Why then does He cry out “My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken Me”?
Because He had to “taste death for everyone” (Heb.2:9): it was our god-forsakenness that He entered into, our death anxiety that He gave voice to.
But the hidden hand of the Father also carried Him through those depths – the hellish depths of lost humanity.
And when He finally cries out “Father, into your hands I entrust My spirit,” He returned all of lost humanity into the Father’s loving hands for eternal salvation and glorification.
The victory was won!
The resurrection is the proof.
He is the Invincible!
