THE GOAL OF SANCTIFICATION (5)

"Pursue peace with all people, and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord."
— Hebrews 12:14

The goal of sanctification is not holiness.

Sanctification is not an end in itself.

There is only one goal, and that is the Lord, Jesus Christ.

The goal is to be transformed into His image, to become like Him.

That is the only thing that matters for time and eternity!

If we have caught a glimpse of what it means to be like Him, it outweighs all the difficulties and problems we must go through on the way there.

And it does not matter how long and tiring the path is.

We fix our eyes on the goal and continue forward, inspired by what we see.

The goal of sanctification is that we may “see the Lord.”

For that to happen, our gaze must be cleansed of everything that clouds it, so that we can see clearly.

What is it that clouds our gaze?

Everything else that captures and dominates us.

We must allow ourselves to be freed from it, so that Jesus becomes our all-dominant attraction.

What happens when we really “see” Him—when the Spirit reveals Him to our inner eye?

He becomes our fascination!

We are irresistibly drawn to Him like a powerful magnet.

It is His love that draws us to Him.

When His love invades and captures our heart, we want nothing more than to know Him better and better.

And the more we know Him, the more we are transformed into His image.

His love for us and our love for Him imprint His image on our inner being.

And His love transforms us!

We become like Jesus.

This is the wonderful and all-surpassing goal of sanctification.
