Daily Word
A word of encouragement for your day.
THE GOAL OF SANCTIFICATION (4)
"How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? Who among you fears the Lord? Who obeys the voice of His Servant? Who walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord and rely upon his God. Look, all you who kindle a fire, who encircle yourselves with sparks: Walk in the light of your fire and in the sparks you have kindled."
There is a part of the path of holiness that is almost unbearable.
That is when God too seems to have abandoned you!
He “hides his face” from you.
It is total darkness and you see no light.
You feel nothing.
No experience of God’s presence.
The Bible is like a closed book.
Prayer does not work.
Heaven seems closed.
“How long” will it be like this?
Has God forgotten me?
You are close to giving up and throwing everything overboard.
What do you do then?
Are you desperately trying to stir up some spiritual feelings, “kindle a little fire”?
Don’t do that!
It will be your fire – not God’s!
A false fire that leads astray!
Your feelings lead you astray.
Always!
You must not follow them.
Nor build your life on your experiences.
What is it then that God wants to teach you during such a difficult time?
To “walk by faith, not by sight” (1/.) – without feeling or experiencing anything.
To trust in the Lord in the deepest darkness, when it feels like He has forgotten and abandoned you.
He wants to bring forth the genuine faith that is worth more than the purest gold (2/.).
Is He allowed to do that with you?
(1/. 2 Cor.5:7-8); (2/. 1 Pet.1:6-7)
