A word of encouragement for your day.
THE GOAL OF SANCTIFICATION (2)
"that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man. Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish."
The goal of sanctification is for the Spirit of God to have full and exclusive influence over our entire being, so that we become tools in God’s hand to accomplish His eternal purposes for this earth and for humanity.
It starts with us being born again.
This means that our spirit is quickened by and united with the Spirit of God.
We become spirit, fundamentally spiritual people: “that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
But we cannot yet live as spiritual people.
Our soul must become spiritual: invaded by the Spirit of God, so that our will, our thoughts, and our feelings become spiritual, completely permeated by the Word and Spirit of God. Then our whole soul will be subjected to the lordship of Christ and obey Him.
Otherwise, we can easily be manipulated by the invisible, infernally cunning spirit world.
But our body cannot become spiritual in this age.
That will happen when Christ returns. When we are caught up to meet Him in the air, it will be
transformed in an instant into a spiritual body.
Then we will become totally spiritual people!
But what must happen to our body now, so that we can live the spiritual life, live as spiritual people in this world?
It needs to be brought under the influence and authority of the Holy Spirit.
How is this done?
Through strong discipline!
That involves forcing our body into obedience to our spirit.
Otherwise, we will be dominated and ruled by our “flesh” – the old habits and desires that can still be easily aroused in the body by the constant temptations that confront us.
To be able to conquer the flesh, we need to become strong enough in our spirit.
We have to develop spiritual muscles.
This is done through constant spiritual training, by building up our inner man through daily
meditation on the Spirit-Word of God and learning immediate and uncompromising obedience to the
Holy Spirit.
Then we can live as spiritual people.
That is the goal of sanctification!
