THE ROCK FOUNDATION (3)

"And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit."
— Matthew 16:17-18; 1 Corinthians 2:9-10

What is the “rock” Jesus is talking about in Matthew 16?

The unshakable and eternally stable rock on which he builds his invincible Church.

Peter?

Absolutely not!

He was extremely unstable.

No, it was the revelation that Peter had just received – the fundamental revelation of who Jesus, the Son of Man, is.

It is not enough that you are convinced and believe that the Word of God is the eternal, unchanging and objective truth.

You must receive an inner, personal revelation of the Word-Christ in your spirit.

Then the objective truth becomes your “subjective-objective” truth – an inner reality, your personal reality.

You can be as convinced as you want in your mind that the Word of God is true – but it does not hold up in the storms of life and the attacks of the “evil day”.

Furthermore, divine truth exists on a different level than the natural: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man.”

We cannot access it with our human minds, Jesus says: “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight." (Matt.11:25-26)

In order to live the spiritual life, we must receive spiritual revelation - a supernatural insight into divine truths and realities.

Is that the rock on which you build your life?

Are you one of the "babes" for whom God's eternal Word, Jesus Christ, has become an absolute and unshakable inner reality?
