Daily Word
A word of encouragement for your day.
DISTANCE (1)
"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. None of you can be my disciple unless he gives up all he has."
This is one of the most difficult and “hard” of all the statements of Jesus.
Like a stone that crushes our hearts.
What must be broken?
Everything that comes between you and Jesus.
A distance must be created between Him and everyone else, yes, everything else.
Jesus must have the absolutely first place.
THEN comes everyone else and everything else.
No one and nothing must be allowed to take His place in your life and my life.
Not even the closest and most beloved ones.
Not even the most valuable thing we own and everything we have fought for and achieved in this life.
Why is that?
Jesus must be given absolute free rein in our lives.
Everything in our lives: our mindset, our values, our lifestyle, our dreams and ambitions must go through such a radical change and transformation that everything becomes “new”: permeated and imprinted by the Holy Spirit.
Otherwise, we will not fit into the kingdom of God.
The kingdom of God is the kingdom of the Spirit.
Only that which is permeated by the Spirit of God fits in there.
We received the Spirit as “a seal” – a proof that we belong to Christ – when we came to faith (Eph.1:13).
But the Spirit must be allowed to permeate and imprint everything we are and have.
Otherwise, Christ does not belong to us.
Has the necessary distance been created in your life?
