RESURRECTION LIFE (3)

"Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer person is decaying, yet our inner person is being renewed day by day. For our momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. And He has said to me, ’My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.’ Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in distresses, in persecutions, in difficulties, in behalf of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong."
— 2 Corinthians 4:16-18; 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Resurrection life is the life of the Spirit.

Its characteristic is daily renewal.

This process “is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison!”

But for that process to take place, another process must continue at the same time.

It is characterized by “affliction.”

What does it mean?

That “our outer person is decaying.”

What does that lead to?

That we come to know “the power of Christ.”

But it can only reach its full power in human weakness.

How is that connected?

Normally, as humans, we trust in our human strength and ability. We want to be strong and independent.

Then we never come to know the real, spiritual and eternal power, the power of Christ, the power of the Spirit.

We must become humanly “weak” in order to become spiritually “strong”: by becoming completely

dependent on Christ.

Only in dependence on Him do we come to know His power.

Therefore, each of us must in our own personal way go through the necessary trials and difficulties that bring us there.

To cope with it, without losing courage and giving up, we must have the right focus.

We must fix our eyes “not at the things which are seen - our momentary light affliction”, but on “the things which are not seen” - the “eternal weight of glory”: the transformation into the likeness of Christ.

Then we can even rejoice “in weaknesses, in insults, in distresses, in persecutions, in difficulties, in behalf of Christ.”

Because then the Spirit becomes the dominant and supporting factor in our lives.

Not the physical.

That is the secret of the resurrection life!
