Salvation is unification: the end of the independent self-life and the beginning of a life in union with my Saviour, Jesus Christ.

In other words, I am no longer an independent individual, but a united person.

This is such a fundamental and life-transforming shift that it takes a long time for us to understand it (get a clear revelation of it) and even more so, to implement it.

In Ephesians Paul explains that our “transgressions”: the breaking of God´s fundamental law of life, which is dependence and submission to our Creator, lead to “death”: the death of our personal life. The reason is that it is impossible for a true person to exist independent of the Source of personality, which is the Son, the Image of the invisible God.

Then he shows that salvation is a unification with Christ in three steps (“with”, “with”, “with”), through which our fundamental spiritual person is restored into being what we are purposed to be: images of God, who is Spirit.

Colossians three reveals another aspect of this powerful act of God: we have died out of the independent life and been raised up into a new reality. The innermost reality of our person is found in the invisible, heavenly world: there we live in union with Christ himself “in God”.

The more this reality is allowed to form and dominate our lives, the more Christ will be visibly manifest in our daily circumstances: the hidden Christ will be “revealed in glory” and we with Him.

This is the ultimate goal of salvation!
