Romans 8:2 presents two powerful spiritual laws that regulate and determine the life of every man

and woman on this earth: "the law of sin and death" which entered mankind through Adam and

"the law of the Spirit of life" which was introduced by Christ Jesus.

The Adamic law of life is the law of the independent self-life, which leads to continual sin and defeat, perversion and corruption. It gave rise to "the old man", totally corrupt, ruled by the devil, un-redeemable and condemned to death.

Christ's law of life is the triumphal law of the God-dependent spiritual life, which created “the new man", the perfect expression of all that God originally intended man to be.

We have been incorporated into this new man and step by step are being transformed into full likeness with Him, through the almighty salvation of Jesus Christ.

"The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus" is the powerful law of the Spirit in the life of the man Jesus, by which He brought about a threefold triumph:

In His life He overcame all the temptations that face us humans, lived a life of complete obedience to His heavenly Father and accomplished all He wanted;

By His death He defeated the spirit power of sin that controls and drives all men and thus broke the devil's spiritual dominion over the human race;

In His resurrection death, Hades, and his physical grave were blasted open, and He emerged in triumph with power to give eternal, indestructible victorious life to all who believe and receive Him.

"The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus" is thus the victorious sin-overcoming life-law of Jesus, which is given to us in salvation, making us as victorious as our Lord.

What Paul claims is that "the law of sin and death" has been disabled through the cross and that "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus" has been fully enabled in us through the Holy Spirit.

If we by faith receive and make it our personal law of life, we will be lifted out of the independent carnal life of defeat and brought into the victorious life of the Spirit in Christ Jesus.
