A GOOD CONSCIENCE

"… a good conscience – through the resurrection of Jesus Christ… A good conscience through the resurrection of Jesus Christ" - what do these words mean?"
— 1 Pet.3:21

To understand them, we must connect them to 1 Cor.15:17: "if Christ has not been raised, you are still in your sins."

What are our sins?

They are our independent, false self-life.

The cross is the end of it: "I have been crucified with Christ – it is no longer I who live."

But the cross is only "half salvation" - it required the resurrection of Christ for its completion!

Through his resurrection, ascension and glorification, Christ gained the power to pour out the Holy Spirit and thereby infuse himself into us: now "Christ lives in me" (Gal.2:20).

"Christ in me" is the good conscience!

Only when he has become my life, my life is right, and it is the Spirit who makes Christ my fundamental reality.

"I will come to you", Jesus promised his disciples and added: "in that day you will know that I am in you" (John 14:18, 20).

On the day of Pentecost, Jesus' promise was fulfilled. It was the day when heaven invaded the earth, when 120 and later 3000 people were invaded by the Spirit of God and Christ took form in them.

Not until Christ was exalted and seated at the right hand of God, with absolute power in the spiritual world, could this happen (Acts 2:33-35; Eph.1:20-23).

That is why Peter, when speaking about having a good conscience, continues in 1 Pet.3:22: "who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him."

This is the prerequisite for the completion of salvation, and salvation means that Christ has become "our life" (Col. 3:4).

We cannot have "a good conscience" until this is realized in us: when we have “put on the new man, which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness" (Eph.4:24) - then we have

" a good conscience”!
