What is it that we most deeply long for, when we long for God?

That for which we were created and lost in the Fall: to be genuine and complete persons like God!

The word "glory" is used in the Bible to describe the beauty and dignity of a genuine and complete person.

Over and over again this word is used to describe God's essence and reality: "The God of glory appeared...", says Stephen in Acts 7:2.

We were created to be partakers of this glory: to be genuine and complete persons.

This is the signification of being created in the image and likeness of God.

The catastrophe of the Fall reduced us to mutilated and incomplete individuals, and more than that,

twisted and confused persons, false persons, who no longer know who they really are and why they exist.

Nowhere is this described more shockingly than in Ephesians 2:1-3: man is spiritually dead, controlled and ruled by the spirit of the devil, and full of degrading passions and desires.

God became man in Jesus to show us what we were created to be: "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the Only Begotten from the Father..."

He is "the fairest among the sons of men", all that the Father from eternity intended man to be: the genuine and complete man, our destiny.

In and through Him the Father has decided to "bring many sons to glory" (Heb. 2:10).

His death, resurrection and glorification have this one goal: to realize, through the outpouring of the Spirit, the purpose of our existence as human beings.

It is the Holy Spirit who realizes all that the Father wants and the Son has made possible for us.

Only in and through Christ can we become what we are meant to be.

Only in Him can our deepest longing be realized: true longing for God is longing for Christ.

In the love relationship with Jesus, you can become everything you have ever longed to be!
