THE INCARNATION
"And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us; and we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth."
What is the climax of biblical revelation?
The Incarnation!
“The Word became flesh …., and we saw His glory….”
God made visible!
The Incarnation reveals the purpose of man’s existence, the reason why he was created in the image of God.
Thus, the image of God also includes the body, yes, first and foremost the body.
It is the body that is created in the image of God.
Spirit and soul are the channels for God’s purposes.
The body is the goal.
Man’s glory is his body.
He is the only one of all spiritual beings/personalities who possesses a physical-earthly body.
His identity is completely connected to the body and cannot be realized without it.
Spirituality in man is forever connected with his body and cannot be realized without his body. “The body is for the Lord, and the Lord for the body” (1 Cor. 6:13).
The Lord and the body are inseparably connected with each other.
The highest honour and dignity of man is that he was formed “of dust from the ground”.
The purpose of his life is to imbue this earthly body with heavenly Spirit, to make the physical spiritual.
“The highest duty of man (higher than ethics, truth and beauty) is to transform the material life (soul and body) God has given us into spirit in a continuous hard battle.” (Greek philospher)
“Glorify God in your body” is the highest of all purposes – the goal and meaning of the incarnation.
The man Jesus Christ realized this purpose.
