We are saved through Christ's obedience to live in obedience to Him!

Romans 5:19 shows that Adam's disobedience constituted us all as sinners, i.e. independent rebels, while Christ's obedience constituted us as righteous, i.e. obedient lovers of God.

To understand what this means, we must be clear that both disobedience and obedience are spirit powers.

Disobedience is the great rebel spirit of the devil that has so permeated fallen, carnal man that he has become God's enemy and cannot possibly obey his law.

Obedience is the Spirit of Jesus Christ, who in His earthly life lived in "double obedience": as a Jew to the Old Testament law and as the Son of His heavenly Father in constant loving obedience to Him.

Thereby He accomplished two decisive things for us: He became the fulfilment and end of the law, and embodied the spiritual life in loving obedience to God that He originally intended for man to live, without the law.

The law was given because of man's rebellion and apostasy from his Creator and its task was to expose our sinful rebellion against God, place a curse on our disobedience and condemn this rebellious spirit of independence to death.

On the cross our rebellious disobedience received its judgment and thus Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law upon every person who does not fulfil its demands.

In His resurrection and the outpouring of the Spirit, He made us partakers of His own spiritual life of loving obedience to God.

Because of what Christ has done, we can exchange our rebellious, independent spirit of disobedience for His loving spirit of obedience.

When we are led by the Spirit, we are no longer under the law and its demands.

Born of the Spirit, we love our Father with the same love as His Son and live our lives in the same joyful obedience as Him.
