As the perfect Saviour, Christ has made us partakers of the fullness of His own divine life.

The prerequisite for this is that He has received the absolutely highest authority in the universe from His Father, which means that all demonic powers have been placed under His feet.

Paul repeats this again and again in his letters and Peter also declares in his sermon on the day of

Pentecost that only after Christ had risen from the dead and was exalted by the Father, did He receive

the authority to pour out the Holy Spirit.

Only then could anyone be born again.

In the continuation of Colossians 2 (vv.11-12) we read that our entire old, carnal life has been buried

with Christ in baptism – and in baptism we were also raised with him. Notice that this happened

"through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead!"

Then Paul explains that God was able to make us alive with Christ because on the cross he wiped out our debts and triumphed over all the spiritual powers of evil.

So, what is so important to understand?

That the wonderful victory won on the cross is made effective through the resurrection and glorification of Jesus Christ and is realized in our lives through the Holy Spirit poured out on the day of Pentecost.

The head of the serpent was crushed on the cross and Christ's elevation to the highest position of authority in the universe is the proof and seal of this.

He who sits on the throne is the one who says, “Behold, I make all things new.”

The Holy Spirit conveys the fullness of all that Christ has accomplished for us—and not only that, the fullness of his divine authority and glory: “all the fullness of the Godhead.”

The perfect Savior is the resurrected and glorified Christ—that is the prerequisite!
