HIS NAME

"For this reason also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. They will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads."
— Philippians 2:9-11; Revelation 22:4

What is the “name which is above every name” – the name which the man Jesus has been bestowed with through His death and resurrection?

The unpronounceable Name – which no Jew dared to pronounce or could even take into his mouth, because no one knows its proper pronunciation.

It is the Divine, holy Name which denotes the hidden essence of God, unknown and incomprehensible to man: “the glorious splendour of His majesty.” (Psalm 145:5)

When we hear Jesus in the Gospels utter the words “I AM”, He claims to be the expression and utterance of that Name as the Son of God, which greatly enraged his enemies.

As the Son of God, Christ possessed that Name: from eternity He is the full expression of the Name.

But the incredible thing that Paul says is that the man Jesus has now received this Name bestowed on Him by the Father.

This is what Jesus also alludes to when He says: “I am; and you shall see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”

A glorified man is therefore the incredible message of the Bible: that all who are born again will one day share in this glory.

This is something so great that we cannot understand the meaning of it in this age.

It cannot be revealed now, for there are simply no words in any present human language to express it according to John: “Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.” (1 Jn.3:2)

Jesus gives a hint of it in Matthew 13:43: “Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father.”

Three of the disciples got a foretaste of this on the Mount of Transfiguration, when they saw the face of Jesus shining as the sun.

But what it really means we cannot even begin to fathom.

His name, the Most High Name, will one day be written on our foreheads: it will become our identity.

That is unimaginable!
