SPIRIT FULLNESS

"Power is perfected in weakness. The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water."
— 2 Corinthians 12:9-10; John 7:38

The secret to the fullness of the Spirit – "rivers of living water" – is total weakness and helplessness, which leads to absolute dependence on the Holy Spirit.

Total weakness and helplessness – absolute Spirit-dependence – Spirit-fullness.

"He who believes in Me," says Jesus, "from his innermost being..."

It is faith that opens up the life flow of the Spirit and faith is precisely this total weakness and helplessness and this absolute dependence on the Spirit, the end of all self-reliance, self-achievement and striving.

"He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, …”: only where the biblical faith is, will there be the biblical Spirit flow.

The fact that it is laid down in Scripture means that this is God's eternal plan and purpose for man and that it is the actual reality of human life.

This means that these are eternal, historical truths.

"..from his innermost being.." i.e. from the human spirit, “will flow rivers of living water.”

Man was created to be a spiritual being and unless our innermost being is made alive by the Holy Spirit, we are not truly alive as persons.

The signature of the spiritual life is precisely this total dependence on the Spirit, i.e. faith, but where there is the least self-ability and self-reliance, this flow immediately ceases.

As long as we try to achieve something, we will fail: "for apart from Me you can do nothing."

This is the though lesson of faith and the life of the Spirit, which takes a lifetime to learn!
