A word of encouragement for your day.
LET GO!
"Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it."
It is totally impossible for us, on our own, to let go of the grip we have on our own lives.
Deep within our fallen, rebellious hearts lies the hold that "spirits of control" have over our lives and our circumstances.
Control is always linked to fear and anxiety—fear of failure, accidents, illness, and so on.
God intended for humanity to live as completely free, secure, and carefree children in His almighty arms, ever aware that He had everything under control.
But when humanity fell from His arms, it fell into other arms—arms defined by a diabolical, controlling grip rooted in the fear of destruction.
The Evil One and all his minions live in a state of constant, hellish fear, fully aware that they stand under the righteous judgment of the Most High and are headed toward eternal ruin.
It was into this "freedom" that the serpent lured unsuspecting humanity.
Professor Hugo Odeberg (Sweden) writes: “Since God is the One in whom life consists, the desire for independence becomes a desire for self-destruction and death. It is not a desire for greater power and development of life, but a perverse desire for annihilation and self-destruction. One should not assume that the human instinct for self-preservation is stronger than the drive toward self-destruction. In fact, the very opposite is true.”
These conflicting forces create an immense sense of anguish within the human being. Something within pulls downward into terrible depths, while at the same time, the person clings to his life—much like a drowning soul clutching a piece of wreckage.
Christ has descended and taken this terrible impulse toward annihilation upon Himself—He has become one with it. On the cross, He broke its dreadful power, as well as the agonizing grip that the ‘spirits of control’ held over humanity.
He grants us the strength to let go of our hold on our lost lives, so that we may be born again—becoming secure, carefree children resting in the almighty care of God!
