What is “the world” in these verses?

It is not this earth, God’s wonderful and diverse creation.

God declared in the beginning that everything He created is “very good”!

The world is first and foremost humanity that has turned its back on God and thus entered the path to its own destruction by opening the door for the great liar and murderer.

This humanity, turned away from God and hostile to Him, is so deeply loved by Him that He sacrificed

His own Son for its salvation.

But the world is also the infernal system that the devil, with the help of God-forsaken humanity, has constructed, like a sticky spider’s web, to trap people in and inject his deadly spirit-poison into them.

This what we must “hate”.

Why?

There is a spirit that constitutes this world and it contains within itself all the abominable impurity, perversion, evil, crime, lies, deceit and all the other misery that characterizes our world.

And if we have ever so little of the spirit of this world in us, we have all of this in us!

According to the Bible, there are only two possibilities:

Either we love the world and open up for this spirit to influence us….

or we hate it and resist its spirit-influence.

There is no in-between!

The Bible paints everything in black and white.

There are no gray areas.

It is either light or darkness….

… death or life….

… Christ or Satan.

The choice is ours!

This devil and this entire perverted world received their death sentence from the Great World Conqueror on the cross and will ultimately end up in fire and be destroyed. Unfortunately, this also includes all of God’s wonderful creation, since it has been contaminated and permeated by the same spirit.

And those who have that spirit will meet the same fate.

Therefore, we must “hate the world”!
